Personal leave may be used freely by bargaining unit members through most of the year. Each member will receive 3 personal days per year. 2 additional days will be added at the beginning of the year if no days were used in the previous year. 1 additional day will be added if one day was used in the previous year. A maximum of 5 days are available within one school year. Restrictions on use are applied on Forbidden and Restricted Days. On days which are not restricted, leave may be entered into Aesop.
Restricted Days are days for which members must apply for personal leave through the district. Leave will be granted freely for up to 5% of the bargaining unit. After that cap is reached, leave will only be granted for:
Moving;
Appearance in court;
Closing procedures when buying and/or selling a home; Appearance as a witness in court;
Obtaining a degree at a university or college;
Adoption of a child;
Attendance at a graduation of a member of the family;
Internal Revenue Service Hearing;
Attendance at a wedding of a member of the family;
Adverse travel conditions preventing a member from returning home (commercial airline grounding, etc)
Restricted days are Mondays and Fridays in May and June, the work day before and following a holiday; the Tuesday before Thanksgiving; the work day before and following Spring break; the Thursday before and the Monday after the designated Spring No Student/No Staff calendar dates.
Forbidden days: personal leave cannot be taken on the first two contractual days or last day of the contractual year; during semester or final examination periods; nor the last day of a grading period.
Sick leave is accrued at a rate of 1.25 sick days/month (15 sick days/year). Five days will be by advanced by the district upon request.
Sick leave applies to the illness or injury of you or someone in your immediate family or for whom you are a caregiver. “Immediate family” includes parents, spouses, children, grandparents/grandchildren, and in-laws. Use includes exposure to a contagious disease that could be communicated to others, death of an immediate family member (including cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles).
Sick leave also covers maternity and paternity leave. Birth parents may take 8 weeks of leave for natural birth or 10 weeks for cesarian section. A non-birth parent may take up to 4 weeks beginning at delivery. 4 weeks of sick leave may be used immediately after placement for adoption of a pre-school age or older child or 6 weeks for a newborn child. The amount of sick leave available to the member in the case of an adoption may be increased by the Superintendent/designee on a case-by-case basis due to extenuating circumstances.
Members are responsible for entering absences into Aesop. Additionally, If you use 5 consecutive sick days, you need to notify your building principal of your status and anticipated date of return. If you use 8 consecutive sick days, you will be required to submit a physician's note justifying the leave. This note should be sent to Human Resources at the Mincy Center.
If you become sick during the school day, inform your building administration so that they can arrange coverage.
Elementary:
Each elementary teacher is guaranteed a minimum of 200 minutes of planning time per week. Each member must have 5 blocks of 30 minutes within the 200 minute total. A schedule defining these times shall be provided by building admin. These blocks shall be uninterrupted time.
Middle:
Each middle school staff member should have no more than 3 preps. Each middle school staff member shall have one plan and one team/conference period each day. This period shall be uninterrupted time.
High:
Each high school staff member should have no more than 2 preps per semester Each high school staff member shall have a minimum of one planning period per day. This period shall be uninterrupted time.
